TSM CONNECT: Tears of Exile

July 16, 2018

Toronto Summer Music Festival

Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal, Artistic Director Andrew McAnerney

In the 7th century before Jesus Christ, Jerusalem was conquered by Nebuchadnezzar II, king of Babylon. The destruction of the Temple of Solomon, the ruin of the Kingdom of Judah, and the captivity of the Jews in Babylon were depicted in the Lamentations of the prophet Jeremiah. This text, which considers this defeat to be a punishment from God, inspired several great composers of the Renaissance.
